About Me

Hi, I’m Lynn

I’m an Oxfordshire-based artist and maker working from my summerhouse studio at the bottom of the garden.

I specialise in mixed media, found objects and textiles and often incorporate free machine embroidery somewhere along the line.  I am fascinated with layers and textures and the way different mediums can be combined, often with surprising results.

A smiling woman with blonde hair wearing a light blue sweater, blue jeans, and a patterned scarf standing in front of a display of framed artwork on a wire grid, with a beige wall in the background.
Colorful embroidered textile with geometric and circular patterns in shades of blue, green, red, and gray, on a textured fabric background.

HOW I Work

I never quite know how my work will turn out so I allow it to develop organically.  Most of my pieces are slightly wonky and quirky and I like nothing better than to find or reuse something and turn it into something else. I often cut up old work to make something new. I have learnt to be brave and curious and my favourite question is ‘I wonder what will happen if…?’

An abstract collage artwork depicting a green foliage background with stylized white and blue dotted flower patterns, black birds with orange beaks and white dots on their wings, some outlined with white, and handwritten script text overlaying parts of the image.
Mixed media art featuring a black bird with white markings and a yellow beak, set against a background of layered paper and painted leaves, with a dried leaf placed on top.

MY INSPIRATIONS

I find myself inspired by so many things including the natural world and historical artefacts. I am always drawn to patterns, layers and textures finding them in the ordinary e.g. drain covers, bark of a tree and shadows. I have a particular fondness for swifts and many of my pieces have a little swift hiding somewhere.

Abstract painting with white leaves, a dark red and white dotted section, and various brushstrokes in gray, white, and black.
